Microsoft Strikes Office 365 Partnership with SBI in India

The State Bank of India will now use Microsoft’s Office 365 for its productivity needs across 222,033 employees. The deal follows similar collaborations with Flipkart and Tata Motors.

's Future Decoded event in Mumbai has produced a few announcements over the last two days. In his keynote talk today, CEO discussed a new partnership with State Bank of India (SBI).

The largest banking institution in India has chosen to use Office 365 as its productivity platform for employees. SBI employs 222,033 staff in India, making it one of the chief employers in the country. The bank will use Office 365 apps and solutions in communication and for productivity.

Nadella also revealed governments across India are also embracing Microsoft's services. The CEO says state government departments in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are using cloud and mobile technology from the company.

In his address, Nadella commented on how Microsoft is pushing cloud development in India:

“At Microsoft, we aim to empower every Indian and every Indian organization to achieve more. With the transformative power of the cloud, we are enabling Indian start-ups, businesses of all sizes, and government agencies to build new digital capability, find new growth and seize the opportunities ahead.”

Microsoft has also recently announced a cloud partnership with Flipkart, India's largest retailer. The company will now use the Azure cloud platform exclusively. This deal mirrors a similar partnership with Tata Motors, India's largest automotive company.

The deal with the automotive giant will see the companies collaborate on creating autonomous and in-car technology.

India Announcements

At Future Decoded today, Microsoft also announced two other services. Skype Lite is a version of the communication service that works in areas with low network bandwidth. The service works on 2G networks and can also help customers save money. Skype Lite is available only for the Indian market.

Also announced for the Indian market was Project Sangam. The platform brings online and offline blended learning and teaching tools. The focus of Project Sangam will be connecting skills learning programs with relevant jobs. To achieve this, the platform leverages LinkedIn's job search capabilities.
