Microsoft Introduces Skype for Business Virtual Health Templates

The new developer templates work with Skype for Business without the need for an subscription. Called Office 365 Virtual Health Templates, healthcare professionals can use the templates for care coordination.

Developers can use the templates to further their own virtual consult experiences. This is achieved through the Skype for Business SDKs. Microsoft launched the SDKs last year as a platform for building web and mobile experiences. Powered by Skype for Business, developers can create chat, audio, and video experiences.

Virtual Health Templates are . Microsoft explains how the templates “use modern web development technologies and leverage existing Skype for Business video services”. Customers can use the templates and integrate features into their healthcare apps.

Because this is an open source solution, Microsoft is asking for developers to embrace the templates. The company has open sourced authentication, site functions, source pages, and connection to Skype for Business.

Early Collaboration

Developers can get underway and create new integrations into their healthcare services. Microsoft cites four major partners who are already making use of the templates.

GE Healthcare is using Microsoft's services in its Virtual Office Visits. The company says the platform provides a level of convenience for patients and helps make healthcare more affordable. RingMD says its integration with the new APIs allows the support of virtual consultations through Skype for Business.

Cambio is a leading company in making doctor-patient visits a digital experience. The company says Microsoft partnership allows it to integrate its solutions into Skype for Business. In with Microsoft, Cambio has created an integrated platform for e-visits.

Finally, CareFlow uses Microsoft's templates to bridge clinical records and communications. Video conferencing technology is not integrated with clinical workflows. With Skype, healthcare workers can communicate securely with patients and other professionals.
