Xbox One Mouse and Keyboard Support Teased by Phil Spencer

Responding to a tweet, the Xbox One chief said upcoming title Halo Wars 2 could get mouse and keyboard support, suggesting Microsoft is bringing the peripherals to its console.

Xbox chief has dropped a new hint that is still interested in bringing mouse and keyboard to the . Replying to a tweet about mouse and keyboard for Halo Wars 2, Spencer said he could see support coming to the game eventually.

More specifically, he said that mouse and keyboard support will not be available for Halo Wars 2 at launch. However, he said the company would like to add it, suggesting development on support is ongoing.

However, it is worth noting that Spencer talks about the Xbox platform and not the Xbox One. These days, titles from Xbox function across platform onto PCs. Halo Wars 2 will launch on PC as well as the console, so Spencer could be referencing this.

That said, considering the question, we think he is talking about keyboard and mouse support on Xbox One.

Consoles are fantastic because they allow gamers to relax while playing, whether on the sofa or even lying down in bed. However, gaming connoisseurs who favour PCs have a few problems with consoles like the Xbox One. Many of these issues are technical, but some can be solved by Microsoft quite easily.

While a gamepad might be ideal for a title like FIFA or GTA, some other games need more nuanced controls. A keyboard and mouse is something PC gamers swear by and the peripherals are something Microsoft has said it will work on for Xbox One. Halo Wars 2 is a real-time strategy title, which is a genre that lends itself well to mouse and keyboard.

Mouse and Keyboard for Xbox One

Phil Spencer has talked about bringing mouse and keyboard support to the console before. Back in June 2016, he said that the company was working on the implementation. Spencer said at the time that keyboard support was ready to go, but mouse support was still in development. The time frame given at the time was months, so we hope to see some movement soon.

I keep talking about it in the press and my platform team keeps shaking their head, because they… Truthfully in our dev kit modes now keyboard works, mouse support is a little bit further away…I say it because I know it's not years away, it's more like months away, but we don't have an exact date yet.
