Samsung’s Surface Pro 4 Rivalling Galaxy TabPro S2 Passes the FCC

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy TabPro S2 Windows 10 hybrid has been given certification in the United States after passing through the Federal Communications Commission.

Samsung launched the Galaxy TabPro S last year as a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 competitor. The Windows 10 hybrid tablet/laptop was a solid machine, but it has been unclear whether Samsung would make a sequel. That doubt has been eased today as a device passing through the FCC in the United States appears to be the Galaxy TabPro S2.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the independent regulatory body of the US government. Devices looking to be launched in the US must pass through the FCC. When a product makes it through the regulations, it typically means it will launch soon.

That makes sense with the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S2 as it is nearly a year after the first model was launched. The new device has been certified with the model number SM-W727V. Incidentally, this is the same model number that received a Bluetooth certification in the US recently.

If you are curious about that model, the V stands for Verizon. So, the Galaxy TabPro S2 has been certified as a Verizon device. It is unclear if the product will be supported by any other carriers in the United States.

As for specs, the FCC documentation shows a bump in hardware for the Galaxy TabPro S2. For example, there will be a 12-inch Super AMOLED screen with a Quad HD 1440 x 2166 resolution. The panel will be covered with Gorilla Glass. Under the hood, there will be an Intel Core i5-7200 7th gen processors powering the tablet.

This chipset is clocked at 3.1GHz and will be paired with 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 128GB of storage. Elsewhere, Samsung has put a 13MP rear camera on the back and a 5MP front-facing snapper for video conferencing. Making sure there is juice to keep the lights on is a 5070mAh battery.

A 13MP rear camera is on board, along with a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies and video chats. A large 5070mAh battery keeps the lights on, and Windows 10 is pre-installed. The “V” at the end of the model number means that the tablet will be offered by Verizon.

There were several signs over the second half of 2016 that Samsung would make a follow up to the device. The South Korean company is generally cool on Windows 10, but seems to be backing the hybrid market.

Back in August, we reported that the company was indeed working on the second edition of the model. In the meantime, Samsung boosted the original TabPro S with a new Gold Edition, which featured slightly improved specs (improved RAM and storage) and a new gold colorway.
