Microsoft Office 365 is Okta’s Most Popular Enterprise App

In its annual report, Okta says Office 365 is also a significant leader amongst mobile users on its network, while it is also the top lifecycle management app.

365 remains the most popular business app in the Okta network. The company that offers single sign-in tools has released its third edition of Business @ Work report. Each year, the report examines how companies and employees complete work. More specifically, it looks at which applications and services are used by organizations.

Under CEO Satya Nadella, has reverted to being a business-oriented company. Moving away from Steve Ballmer's vision as a consumer-focused hardware brand, Nadella has steered Microsoft towards enterprise and the cloud.

From Azure to , Microsoft is focused on delivering its services to companies. is one of the key components of the company's push to enterprise. The productivity suite has topped Okta's report as the most popular app for the last three years. In 2016 the suite also became the top lifecycle management app on the Okta network.

“Office 365 increased its lead as the most popular app in our network in 2016. Office 365 is also the number one lifecycle management app today (but Box and G Suite are not far behind). And, Office 365 is far and away the most popular app accessed by Okta customers on mobile devices.”

Interestingly, Office 365 is also comfortably the most used app for mobile customers. This is actually ironic because Okta CEO, Todd McKinnon said last year that Microsoft is running scared in the mobile enterprise market.

Enterprise Worries?

While Office 365 is clearly thriving, Okta points out that Yammer's popularity is dropping as Slack become more successful. However, Microsoft has recently announced its Teams platform, an enterprise chat client that taps into Office 365 and other services.

has the advantage of tens of millions of existing Office 365 customers. This has already made it a competitor to Slack. Teams is only available in preview form, but already it is predicted that it will help Microsoft, along with Skype for Business, to dominate the enterprise chat space.

It is also worth mentioning that Microsoft also owns LinkedIn, giving the company access to data on over 400 million enterprise employees.
