Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Fast Ring Build 15014 for PC and Mobile

The new Windows build introduces e-books, automatic recycle bin emptying and a power slider on select Windows 10 devices. It also fixes a TON of issues.

-

has released another preview build, the third one in the last two weeks (after 15002 and 15007). The company has announced the roll out of build 15014 in the fast ring for PC and Mobile, introducing several new features and a ton of fixes to known issues.

Windows 10 preview build 15014 introduces e-books to the Windows Store. A few days ago an early look at the reported ebook part of Microsoft's Store was found and as expected the feature has been added to the latest Windows 10 preview build.

Insiders in the U.S. now have the ability to purchase e-books and read them with Microsoft Edge.

After purchasing your e-books – you will find those in your Books library, which is a new hub entry in Microsoft Edge right next to your favorites, history, downloads and reading list. Windows Insiders in the US get to try out this experience today starting with this build and we expect to add more content over time”, says Dona Sakar, software engineer for Microsoft's Windows and Devices Group, in the blog post.

Self-cleaning recycle bin

Windows 10 preview build 15014 also brings a new way to save extra space when you're low on disk space. Microsoft has added a new option in the Storage Settings that Insiders can use to set-up a recycle bin auto-emptying schedule. This feature currently supports auto-emptying for unused temporary files and items that have been in your recycle bin for 30 days.

The option is off by default, but you can turn it on under System > Storage Settings and choose what it cleans up”, Microsoft says.

The arrival of the power slider

Microsoft has also announced the introduction of a new power slider on select Windows 10 Devices. Some of Windows 10 Insiders will notice a new slider in the power fly-out on the Taskbar, while others won't.

Sakar explains this decision: “We need Insiders giving feedback both on the new UI and on the “slider-less” UI, since many PCs receiving the Windows 10 Creators Update will continue to not have the slider.

Windows 10 New Power Slider
The new power slider feature won't be available to all Insiders

The power slider gives Insiders the freedom to tune their PC for different scenarios. For example, when a power supply is available, a gamer may choose to turn the slider all the way to the right, seeking top-end CPU performance.

“If you turn the slider all the way to the left (when on battery power), it will turn Battery Saver ‘on' (similarly to how, if your PC does not show the slider, there is a ‘toggle' that can turn on Battery Saver on or off).”

Microsoft hinted on the introduction of the power slider back in January with the release of Windows 10 Preview Build 15002. “We are running experiments on a small set of Insider devices to evaluate an upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update feature which helps improve Windows battery life.

Microsoft has also announced the axing of Windows 10 Mobile's Apps Corner with the latest build for fast ring Insiders. Read more about it here.
