Developed by Sweden-based Donya Labs AB, Simplygon has been acquired by Microsoft as part of the plan to speed up the company’s ‘3D For Everyone’ vision and strategy.

The company’s corporate vice president for Next Gen Experiences in Windows and Devices Groups, Kudo Tsunoda, has explained in his blog post that “Simplygon’s technology and talent will strengthen our position in 3D creation, making it easier to capture, create and share in 3D.

Simplygon has also announced its acquirement by Microsoft with a note to its official website. “Our next challenge is 3D For Everyone, the ultimate accessibility! We’re thrilled to join forces with Microsoft to make this happen.”, says Simplygon’s CEO Matt Connors.

This acquisition signals an even brighter future for Windows and Microsoft. The company has invested in a premier developer of 3D data-optimization and plans to offer its users an advanced 3D experience.

Simplygon has made a name with a CAD based product visualization platform that integrate existing CAD data into applications such as Epic´s Unreal Engine 4. They use a five-step procedure to bring raw graphical data to industry-standard file formats.

Microsoft´s 3D For Everyone approach

Microsoft introduced ‘3D For Everyone’ with the Windows 10 Creators Update at its event in New York last October. The company has already introduced Paint 3D and the online community Remix 3D to Windows Insiders.

The project aims to do exactly as its name states and bring 3D to everyone’s life. Microsoft has already released the ‘3D For Everyone’ experience to members of the Windows Insiders Program. When the Windows 10 Creators Update is released it will be available to everyone.

Why 3D? Microsoft has answered this question in a simple yet comprehensive way: “3D can better communicate ideas and expression, it accelerates comprehension because it’s much more representative of the world in which we live.

The first set of Paint 3D tutorials has already been released by Microsoft. Four videos nail down the basics and give users a wider idea of the apps’ capabilities.
