Microsoft´s Surface Pro 5 might be close to arrive or take some longer. Meanwhile, the competition is gearing up, with the Lenovo Miix 720 being one of the most interesting clones coming to market.
The 12-inch Miix 720, which will start shipping in April for US$999 will cost US$100 more than the cheapest Surface Pro 4 model, but also come with superior features.
It will run on Intel´s latest Kaby Lake CPU architecture and support 4K video thanks to an integrated GPU. On the outside it looks like Microsoft´s Surface Pro, featuring a kickstand at its back. Connectivity will be better however.
The Miix 720 wears a USB-C port, which is also a high-speed Thunderbolt 3 port that can connect peripherals like displays and storage devices, and additional USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. The Surface Pro 4 is limited to only one full-sized USB 3.0 port.
While memory support of up to 16GB is on par with Microsoft´s tablet, the Lenovo Miix 720 runs on DDR4 DRAM in comparison to just DDR3 memory in the Surface Pro 4.
The 12-inch screen is slightly smaller than the 12.3-inch screen on the Surface Pro 4 but offers a higher resolution of 2880 x 1920 (vs. 2736 x 1824).
