Microsoft Preparing New Windows 10 Set Up Experience Powered by Cortana

The new Cortana set up for Windows 10 comes as an out of the box experience with the virtual assistant ready for commands by default. The feature is currently being tested internally and could be available to Insiders in the coming months.

has been expanding 's usefulness through previews. Adding to the abilities of the virtual assistant, the company is also working on a new Windows 10 set up experience. Cortana will power the new experience, according to Windows Central.

The latest internal build of Windows 10 have new Cortana features built in. This is achieved by a new out of the box experience (OOBE) that is waiting for voice commands by default.

Users wanting to engage Cortana in the set up process can narrate to the assistant. The addition furthers Microsoft's plans for Cortana to stretch across Windows 10, all devices, and be powerful enough to be a true companion to users.

Cortana is not the only change being made to the Windows 10 set up experience. Microsoft is giving the whole process an overhaul with some fresh UI. There is an option to turn voice control off and on, and to change the volume.

Using voice commands is not the only way to set up under the Creators Update. That makes a bunch of sense considering Cortana is not available in many regions around the world. For users without access to Cortana, or those who simply want a more traditional set up, Microsoft has it covered. A good old keyboard and mouse method can also be used.

Insider Release

At the moment, the new set up experience is being tested internally. We expect that this feature will make its way to Windows Insiders as a preview before the Creators Update. It is worth noting that not all features pass through Insiders, so Microsoft could save this for the spring launch of Windows 10 Creators Update.

Alternatively, the Cortana powered set up could arrive as soon as next month on the Fast Ring. Microsoft has shut down Insider previews for the year and will return with new builds in January.
