[UPDATE 15.12.2016 – 16:12 CET] Microsoft has acknowledged the Skype outage and has now confirmed that the service is back up. The outage seemed to last around three hours, according to the chart below.
In a post on the Skype heartbeat page, Microsoft says it found the problem and solved it. With the issue mitigated, users are reporting that users should start seeing Skype come back up. It is certainly working for us and we can now log in.

If you are trying to log in and use Skype at the moment you may be having problems. Microsoft’s communication service is currently down and it seems to be a global outage. The company has not yet said what the problem is or how long it will take to bring Skype back.
On downdetector.com, users from countries such as Italy, USA, Pakistan, and Peru are reporting that Skype is down. That suggests this is a worldwide issue. Multiple login attempts do not work, with the service just timing out before it ca sign in.
Users are complaining that the service is down and in some instances costing people work.
One Skype report reads: “@skypesupport urgent – skype down in toronto. not working. dials call – then doesn’t connect. can’t send sms. urgent for work. pls help”

We reached out to Microsoft to ask when Skype will be back up, we’ll update this article when the company replies. We are also trying to find out if this affects Skype builds across platforms. Windows 10 PCs are certainly affected, but some reports suggest the Android version of the service is up and running.
