Skype for iOS Update Adds Holiday Video Message Feature

The update also brings a couple of handy features like rejoining group calls and a cleaner look with the removal of notifications from Notification Center.

Microsoft is constantly working on improving the iOS version of Skype. The new holiday-spirited update brings Skype for iPhone and iPad to version 6.30.

The minor update includes a holiday video message that users can customize to add a more personal feel to it and send it to family, friends, and colleagues.

Here is the complete list of changes from the official changelog:

  • Spread a little extra holiday cheer! Share a personalized holiday video message with your loved ones. Tap on the snowflake button next to the Skype logo to get started.
  • Notifications are now removed from the Notification Center when the Skype app is launched – decluttering is a good thing.
  • Have you ever accidentally closed the app during a group call and were unable to join? Now you can easily rejoin group calls.
  • Please continue to send us feedback by opening the app and tapping the Skype Community link in My info. We’re listening!

Improving the Skype experience

Improving Skype for iOS is a part of an ongoing Microsoft’s effort to unify Skype across all platforms. Currently, there is a number of different Skype desktop and mobile apps that offer uneven experiences and the company aims at making the experience unique.

As a part of that effort, Microsoft rolled out a new Skype Preview to Insiders last week. The build brought voice translation to the application, as well as several other new features. The features are now also available in the Release Preview and Slow ring.
