Microsoft Updates Office for Mac to Version 15.29 on the Inside

Office for Mac Insiders on the Slow Ring now have accessibility built into the service, while hyperlinks have been added to PDF files in version 15.29.

-

has rolled out a new build for the Office Insider Program. This release is specifically for Insiders on the Slow Ring. With the December update, Office for Mac is bumped to build number 15.29 (16120401).

As this is a Slow Ring release, it shouldn't be too long until build 15.29 comes to all Mac end users. Microsoft is not rolling out a bunch of features, but this update does come with some additions.

The key new feature is the ability to use a keyboard or other integration instantly with built in accessibility.

Microsoft has issued the full changelog:

  • Accessibility built right in: We've improved support for using your keyboard, VoiceOver, and other assistive technology to read and edit documents, worksheets, and presentations.
  • Hyperlinks in PDF files: In Word, retain your document fidelity, with working hyperlinks, when converting documents to PDF.

If you are an Insider on the Slow Ring, you can get this update from Help>Check for updates. As we mentioned, normal end users will be able to get Office for Mac build 15.29 in the next few weeks.

Office for Mac Updates

Back in October, Microsoft rolled out Office for Mac 15.27 to Insiders and later to all users. It came with the following features:

  • More functions: In Excel, use CONCAT or TEXTJOIN to shorten your text formulas, or try the forecasting functions to help you see the future. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)
  • Trim audio and video files: In PowerPoint, trim unwanted content from the beginning or the end of your audio or video files. You can also trigger an animation by using a bookmark in your media file. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)
  • Make sure your notes are accessible: In OneNote, find and fix accessibility issues in your notes using the Accessibility Checker on the Tools menu.
  • Try our new designs: In OneNote, we've made some changes to help you get around your notes. Check them out by turning on Preferences > General > Enable experimental features, and let us know what you think!

In the summer, Microsoft introduced the 64-bit version of Office to the Mac OS platform. The company said this will result in better load times and smoother/faster performance. As Mac allows only 32-bit or 64-bit individually, Microsoft announced it would end support for Office 2016 32-bit on Mac. Anyone with a license was updated to the newer version.
