Microsoft confirmed the dates and location for its Build 2017 developer conference. The company’s big show will take place May 10-12, 2017 in Seattle. As well as announcing Build 2017, Microsoft also detailed the dates and locations for all its major events next year.

If you follow Microsoft’s Build conferences then you will now that 2017’s event is late. The company usually hosts the gathering in March or April. We think we know exactly why Build 2017 is arriving later than usual.

Back in October, Microsoft announced the Windows 10 Creators Update. The company said that the feature upgrade will be rolled out during spring 2017. Windows 10 will score a myriad of new features in the Creators Update, which is also known as Redstone 2.

After the Creators Update, Microsoft will look towards ‘Redstone 3’. A previous announcement from the company confirmed that there will be two feature updates for Windows 10 per year. Redstone 2 will be the first and then Redstone 3 will be readied through the summer of 2017 for a fall launch.

At Build 2017, we expect Redstone 3 to be the focus of the event. Microsoft will surely announce the new update at Build next year.

Build 2017 and other events

While the location and dates for the next Build conference stood out, Microsoft also announced its other 2017 events.

  • “First, we are bringing our annual Microsoft Build conference to Seattle — the “cloud city” — from May 10-12, 2017. Once again, developers can hear from Microsoft engineering leaders and learn about the latest tools and technologies to boost creativity and productivity. Look for information about Microsoft Build 2017 at http://build.microsoft.com.

  • Next, we are renaming the Worldwide Partner Conference to Microsoft Inspire, which will be held July 9-13 in Washington, D.C. This new name reflects how Microsoft and our partner community inspire each other to innovate and deliver powerful new solutions to customers. Registration for Microsoft Inspire is now open — learn more at https://inspire.microsoft.com/.

  • And finally, we are shifting Microsoft Envision, our event for business leaders previously planned for February, to become part of Microsoft Ignite Sept. 25-29. The partnership between business and IT leaders has never been more important, so Microsoft Ignite will now cater to both audiences and help foster collaboration between the two. We’ll have more details to share in the coming months.”
