users who are on the Fast Ring of the Windows Insider Program are getting a new update. has sent out Windows Camera 2016.1101.11.0 to Insiders. This is a minor release that focuses on updating the native camera app. More specifically, there are now improvements for the HDR improvements.

In terms of the HDR features, users can now take 3 HDR photos in a row before saving. Any users should be warned that this update for Windows Camera is causing issues for the device. It appears the HDR feature now freezes the Elite x3 while taking photos.

Apart from the HDR update, build 2016.1101.11.0 does not come with any other features. The changelog includes bug fixes that Microsoft says are focused on reliability and performance. Mysterious user experience improvements have also been issued.

Windows Camera UI Change

Back in October, Microsoft rolled out a Timelapse feature for Windows Camera. That was also a Fast Ring release for Windows Insider Preview.

As we have seen on other platforms, the Time-lapse feature will keep taking photos when the timer is on. This can be toggled in the settings menu. As this is a major new addition, the timer setting has been added to the main screen rather than in the setting menu.

The same update also introduced an important new UI layout. Icons have been made more visible through a white background. The ability to switch from the front to rear facing camera has been moved to the top left corner. This new position for the toggle is now easier to avoid and not hit accidentally.

Usability of the UI is now more in evidence. The settings menu has been turned into a gear icon that fits into the general Mobile style. Opening this menu now brings up an overlay interface instead of a separate menu.
