Microsoft Pix Camera for iOS Gets Dual Lens Support and More

Microsoft's Pix Camera now comes with several image frames, as well as white balance tweaks and iPhone 7 plus dual lens support.

's Pix for iOS received a small but significant update today. Version 1.0.22 brings two new features and a minor improvement that should help with portrait photography.

For those unfamiliar with the app, Pix camera intelligently captures photos via face detection, burst capture and on the fly expose and color enhancements. It's been praised by some consumers as a step up from 's default camera.

Despite this, Pix Camera has been lacking when it comes to iPhone 7 plus. The phone's dual lens functionality hasn't been supported by the app. Today Microsoft has addressed that issue, with a small update that brings two new features. Here's the full changelog:

  • NEW: Add decorative frames to any image – both still and Live Images. Try our exclusive Fantastic Beasts frame!
  • NEW: Support for dual lens on iPhone 7 plus, which preserves the full detail captured by the telephoto lens.
  • IMPROVED: White balance adjusted slightly warmer to enhance the healthy glow of skin tones.”

While the image frames are little more than a gimmick, it's quite cool to see a Harry Potter style newspaper complete with a moving image. The dual lens functionality is much more important, however. It means the app can be up to par with Apple's default, and users won't have to choose between functionalities.

The adjustment to white balance will also be useful, and will further reduce the need for any post-processing. It's a definite improvement over the previous version and should blow the beat the Apple camera when combined with Microsoft's on the fly tweaking.

You can grab the latest version of Pix camera now from App Store, though you'll need to be running iOS 9 or later.
