Almost 50% of Steam Gamers Are Running Windows 10

According to Steam’s Hard- and Software survey, 49.6 percent of its gamers use Microsoft’s latest OS. This presents a minor increase of 0.27 percent compared to last month.

To be precise, 48.37 percent of users are running the 64-bit version of , while interestingly only 1.23 percent are gaming on the 32-bit version.

Among Windows , Windows 7 64 bit is the OS of choice for 28.82 percent of users. It is the only other Windows to have double digits. Also, Windows 8.1 64 bit with 8.59 percent and Windows 7 with 5.40 percent stand out from the bottom half of the list.

The survey shows that whopping 95.40 percent of Steam users run some version of the Windows OS. with 3.59 percent and with 0.88 percent round out the remaining users.

In comparison with the October report, there are no big changes. MacOS 10.12.1 64 bit with the 0.95 percent increase in usage (1.12 percent in total) presents the most significant change.

The report also offers details about the hardware preferences of gamers by showing the number of CPUs per computer, system RAM, free hard drive space, total hard drive space and much more. Those interested in details regarding gaming trends on Steam can view the full survey here.

Steam conducts its monthly survey to gather data about what kinds of computer hardware and software its customers are using. The survey offers an interesting overview of the many components that comprise a gaming experience.

The company states that “the information gathered is incredibly helpful to us as we make     decisions about what kinds of technology investments to make and products to offer.”

Participation in the survey is completely anonymous. However, it is important to note that the statistics report is based on optional, random surveys. Thus, while it certainly offers a credible and valuable insight, it may not present the whole situation with complete accuracy.
