Microsoft Expected to Release Windows 10 Mobile ‘Reset App’ Feature with Creators Update

New information suggests that a reset app function will be coming to mobile with the Windows 10 Creators Update, allowing users to fix errors without re-installing apps.

is a pretty stable operating system on the whole, but unfortunately, errors do happen. This is especially relevant with apps, which can have dodgy installs or problems caused by updates.

Thankfully, now has a solution for this that doesn't involve deleting and re-downloading the entire thing. According to Aggiornamenti Lumia, upcoming builds of Mobile will have a reset app feature.

Reset App Functionality

The publication seems to have gotten hold of an internal build, and explains how the new feature will work (translation):

“If you have problems with any application downloaded from the Windows Store, instead of being forced to uninstall it and reinstall it by consuming valuable network data (and time if this app is pretty heavy to download) [all] you will have to do is log on to Settings> System> Storage > App, and games , and go on advanced application options. Here you'll…reset it with the dedicated button.”

This could be a huge time saver for those with slow internet connections or large apps. It may also save on space. Application data can build up over time, and it doesn't always stay relevant. Occasional cache purges could help recover some memory on low-space devices.

The functionality will come to the general public with the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update in early 2017. Insiders can expect to see the feature much sooner, however, allegedly in the next build.

The release will come with some other minor UI tweaks, most notably to the storage interface. You'll be able to see how much space individual apps take, and colors will distinguish between various categories.

Aggiornamenti Lumia's discovery coincides with the new Share UI, which can be enabled by Insiders with a registry tweak. Share UI will also come with the Creators Update, and suits Windows 10 a lot better than the previous version.

We should see these features and more begin to roll out officially to Insiders soon. The Windows team took time off last week for Thanksgiving, but it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine a build sometime this week.
