As we reported today, Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 Creators Update Preview Build 14971. The PC preview has arrived on the Windows Insider Program Slow Ring with a number of new features. Among them is a new a new Get Office experience with expanded features.
Each installation of Windows 10 comes with a Get Office app. Essentially, this is a gateway to give users access to Microsoft Office. In other words, it’s an advertisement to get Windows 10 users to download the suite.
However, with the launch of Windows 10 Build 14971 in preview, Microsoft is doing a bit more with Get Office. We started hearing reports yesterday that the company would do more than just give users and ad.
“Whereas before Get Office was largely a collection of links to help you get started with Office, the new and improved app will help you explore and manage your Office experience. Easily discover and launch apps and see all your recent Office documents in one place! We still have the familiar help links, but we’ve redesigned the experience to make easier to find what you’re looking for. As you try out the new app, please log feedback – we’d love to hear your thoughts!”
This is evidenced in the Windows Task Manager, where Get Office has been replaced in the list by Office Hub Application. Get Office still appears as a child task, but it is clear Microsoft is doing more with the app.
Get Office Tabs
As Microsoft points out, the app is now a more complete management service for Office customers. There are numerous tabs available within Get Office. One of them is the Home tab, which shows recent documents and links to installed Office apps.
Get Office also allows users to sign in to their accounts, whether that is a Home or Business Enterprise subscription. The Documents tab reveals a longer list of created documents with a search function to find files.
The My Account tab is associated with Office 365, allowing customers to manage their subscriptions and payments. Lastly, a Help and Training tab does what it says on the tin. There are links to online resources and tutorials, as well as Microsoft’s support forums.
