Xbox One Tops Console Sales in US for Fourth Consecutive Month

Microsoft’s Xbox One is continuing its market growth, and has also recorded its second consecutive best-selling month in both the UK and Australia.

We have been covering the rise of the Xbox One extensively over the last few months. From 's new strategy emboldening the console to the fact is has outsold the PS4 consistently. Now the latest figures from tracking firm NPD show the Xbox One has outsold Sony's console in the US again.

This is the fourth month in a row that Microsoft has taken top prize in its home country. The figures are from the month of October, showing the device now has a grip on the US market.

Bigger news arguably comes from other markets. The console has now become the top seller in the UK and Australia. This is the second month in a row the Xbox One has topped the PS4 in those markets. This is a significant development for Microsoft. It shows the company's strategy is not just paying off in its home market, but bolstering sales elsewhere.

Xbox marketing boss Mike Nichols commented on the recent success:

“Thanks to the passion of Xbox fans worldwide and their continued excitement for , Xbox One was once again the best-selling console in October in the U.S., U.K. and Australia according to NPD Group and GfK Entertainment. The console has been the best-selling console in the U.S. for the past four months, and in the U.K. and Australia in each of the last two months.”

Xbox One S Impact

I have argued on these pages that Microsoft's current market growth is unlikely to change things. The company is winning plenty of battles these days, but will ultimately lose the war. I stick to that prediction because Sony built up a significant lead with the . The Japanese company's console is still selling well, just not at the pace of the Xbox One S.
