Microsoft Releases Official Fix for Install of Windows 10 14393.222

According to Microsoft, the issue with 14393.222 affected a small number of users and was caused by a leftover regkey from a previous build.

Shortly after the launched last week, it became clear that some users were having trouble with the build. confirmed on Tuesday that a fix was incoming, and it's now officially available.

The fix comes in the form of an installer file. Rather than direct registry edits, it comes as a .msi file called “Update Registry.”

Running the file opens a cmd window which then runs several lines of code before closing. It's totally safe and doesn't require fiddling around like the previous workaround.

Xbox Scheduled Task Keys

According to Microsoft, the issue originated from leftover Xbox Scheduled Task regkeys. The keys were blocking the update, which resulted in the failed install.

“We became aware of an issue with the recent Windows 10 cumulative update that impacted a small number of customers in the Windows Insider Program that were running a previous build of the OS,” said a Microsoft spokesperson,“We have created a solution to resolve this issue, which is now live and can be accessed here.”

The issue only affects users on a specific Insider build and comes a total of seven days after the release.
