Microsoft today announced a new partnership with industrial technology leader ABB. The collaboration has been set up to help customers get more value from digital services. Together, the companies will develop and enrich digital transformations for customers within ABB’s reach.
ABB is a specialist in industrial and future technologies. The company’s customers will now have access to Microsoft’s enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure and accompanying services. Microsoft says this will help digital transformations in sectors like marine and ports, robotics, electric vehicles, and renewable energy.
Through the partnership, the company will use Microsoft Azure cloud platform and services. The company will adopt Azure and make Microsoft its exclusive cloud partner for its integrated connectivity platform.
“Together with ABB, we are providing industrial customers with the digital technology and cloud platform to empower every person, team and business system within an organization to glean new insights and drive faster decision-making to seize new growth and opportunities,” said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft.
“This partnership will provide unique benefits to our customers in utilities, industry, transport and infrastructure, building on the combined strength of Microsoft and ABB,” said ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer. “Building on our installed base of more than 70 million connected devices and more than 70,000 digital control systems, the next step is to develop one of the world’s largest industrial cloud platforms.”
Collaboration
Microsoft says the two companies have enjoyed a fruitful collaborative history. Together they have brought transformations through service solutions to numerous industries. Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure is one area where Microsoft and ABB have worked successfully together in the past.
In this new partnership, ABB will adopt Azure services such as Azure IoT Suite, Cortana Intelligence Suite, and other enterprise level cloud products.
