Microsoft “Finalizing” Fix for Failed Windows 10 14393.222 Update

Users have been left unable to download Cumulative Update Windows 10 14393.222 since it launched last week. There are a number of workarounds available, but Microsoft says a permanent fix is on its way.

Last week's roll out of Cumulative Update build 14393.222 for PCs has not gone smoothly. We reported on the release of KB3194496 to Windows Insiders last week, but a “subset of users” were not able to download the update.

, a little late to the party, has said it is working on “finalizing” a fix.

Yesterday we wrote about a workaround that works, but that was from a user on the support forum.

Microsoft's only response by that point was on Friday. The company only promised to look into the matter and did not say anything else.

Now the company is back and says that a fix is coming very soon. It is interesting that Microsoft says this affects a subset of users, but the support page is up to over 30 pages.

Discussing the fix on the forum, Microsoft says:

    “Hello Insiders!

We've been working diligently on this issue and are finalizing a clean-up script that will fix the underlying issue preventing the install of KB3194496 (Cumulative Update 14393.222) for affected users. Your patience during our research and subsequent work is greatly appreciated.

Thank you as always and stay tuned!”

Fix

As the company suggests, cleaning up the script will hopefully solve this problem. It is worth mentioning that plenty of Insiders have downloaded Windows 10 build 14393.222 without incident. As well as the workaround we posted yesterday, there are several others on the forum that users report are working.

If you don't want to wait for Microsoft's patch, you can try one of those workarounds. That includes the one we posted yesterday, although that requires some digging in the registry.
