Microsoft Rolls out New Xbox One Preview with Several Fixes

rs1_xbox_rel_1610.160929 brings fixes to several streaming services, increases the performance of Snap, and fixes some minor interface issues

has begun rolling out rs1_xbox_rel_1610.160929, which comes with a number of important fixes. As the name suggests, this build is part of Redstone 1, and essentially adds to the Anniversary Update.

Users will now get notifications for voice messages, Snap should be more stable, and some of your favorite streaming services will be too.

Here is Microsoft's full list of fixes, as found on the Xbox Forums:

  • Sky TV, Now TV, HBO GO: Resolved an issue which could prevent users from playing content in the following apps – Sky TV, Now TV, or HBO Go.
  • Snap: Resolved an issue which sometimes caused stuttering when playing a game with a snapped app.
  • Notifications: When receiving voice messages from another user, you should now receive a notification.
  • Home: Resolved an issue which caused description tiles for most recently used games and apps to appear solid instead of transparent.

This update builds on the previous one, which added some huge new features, including Clubs and Looking for Group. The “Arena” feature should be coming today as a separate update.

Unfortunately, there's still a minor issue with this build. When in the clubs interface, you might still see a “Start Club Party” button even if you're not a member.

There are also still some issues with Netflix on HDR TVs, though Microsoft has not acknowledged it yet. Our guess is that they are still investigating the issue.

In general, this update should help make the Xbox experience feel more stable and responsive. If you're in the Insider program you should see the update now in settings. If you aren't and you're waiting for these fixes, you may be out of luck. I believe you still need an invite from a friend to gain access.

Insiders can view the full patch notes on the Xbox Forums.
