Microsoft hosted the awards at its Ignite 2016 Conference last week. The company announced a number of winners for apps and services on the Office suite.

The Office Awards Ceremony is Microsoft's attempt to rewards developers. The company hands out prizes for apps and add-ins that create a “productivity experience that is uniquely personal”.

At Ignite, 28 awards were given at the 2016 Office Awards Ceremony. Ten categories are represented during the event and each award is decided by a panel of judges. Microsoft points out that the judging process takes several months. Hundreds of developers are considered, each a creator of Office Store applications.

Apps are also judged from other Microsoft marketplaces, like the Windows Store and Azure. The obvious stipulation is that they must be tied to Office in some way.
