Microsoft Updates Windows Upgrade Analytics with Site Discovery and Ready for Windows Data

The latest version of Windows Upgrade Analytics integrates data from both Site discovery and Ready for Windows, allowing admins to make even more informed upgrade decisions.

-

has added two new features to their Windows Upgrade Analytics service that should make it more robust and useful. For those unfamiliar, Upgrade Analytics was first announced in July, and allows organizations make informed and planned OS upgrades.

The new features integrate Site discovery and Ready for Windows data. Site discovery gives information on what websites are being used by Windows 7 and 8.1 devices on IE 11.

This allows developers to prioritize web application testing based on the data provided. The information is opt-in, and can only be sent after it's set up via registry or Upgrade Analytics Deployment Script.

You can find out more information on how to implement Site discovery in the TechNet documentation.

Ready for Windows

Naturally, the Ready for Windows data comes from the existing website. The site essentially lists software that is compatible with , making it easier to weigh the pros and cons of upgrading.

As a result of the update, Upgrade Analytics will now show adoption rate and vendor support for each application you use. It's a simple addition, but the automatic presentation is far easier than searching the site manually.

Unlike the Site discovery feature, Ready for Windows doesn't require any additional steps to see the data. Both features should be available to current users today.

Microsoft also has plans for feature updates in the coming months, though there haven't been any specific details yet. In the meantime, you can read more detail about the changes on the TechNet blog. We'll be covering the next update here on Winbuzzer, so now is a good time to enable notifications or sign up for the newsletter.
