Microsoft’s Latest Office on Android Update Improves Collaboration Tools

The latest Office release brings collaboration and sharing improvements to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, while the latter two get some specific new features.

has rolled out its latest update for its mobile office applications on . The company launched the release today for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. With this new update, the focus has been put on making collaborations through the services easier. Users can how share in a simpler manner, while Excel and PowerPoint scored some extra updates.

To help make collaborating and sharing easier, Microsoft has made some navigation changes. tools have been moved to a central location where users can easily access them.

Excel and PowerPoint have received their own app-specific updates. Excel is now better at replicating data with an improved copy and paste feature. PowerPoint can now use the Find feature to search for text across content.

The company has pushing its Office apps on other platforms. Microsoft is one of the biggest developers on Google's mobile platform (over 70 apps). Word, Excel, and PowerPoint have been downloaded millions of times. However, they face stiff competition from Google's own Documents suite on mobile devices.

Earlier in the year, Microsoft launched Office Insider Program on Android. This gives Insider members access to new Office builds and features before they come to end users.

As is normal, Microsoft has issued a changelog for the new Word, Excel, and PowerPoint updates:

  • Improved reading experience. PowerPoint's presentation reading experience gets a fresh new look on Android phones. And now, you can drag and drop to reorder slides and double-tap to edit them.
  • You can use the new Find icon in the PowerPoint ribbon to search for text across a presentation.
