In a blog post on Wednesday, brought Azure Event Hubs Archive to public preview. The announcement brings the highly scalable data-stream ingestion service to Azure preview users. Microsoft says the service is easy to setup and affordable, giving a cohesive cloud storage option.

Azure Event Hubs Archive is a real-time, fully managed data-stream service. The service can ingress millions of events per second. It also allows streaming of the event through multiple applications. Hubs gives users the ability to manage huge data stores, processing and analyzing data from connected devices and apps.

The Archive is capable of long-term data archival and downstream micro-batch processing. Customers have previously had to contend with using their own solutions for batch processing tasks. Making and managing these jobs can result in costly overheads, Microsoft says. Event Hubs Archive solves this problem with a one-stop solution.

Features

Microsoft has wrapped all those concepts into one tool. Event Hubs Archive moves data from Event Hubs to storage. In its announcement, the company describes the benefits of the Archive:

  1. Simple setup: Extremely straightforward to configure your Event Hubs to take advantage of this feature.
  2. Reduced total cost of ownership: Since Event Hubs handles all the management, there is minimal overhead involved in setting up your custom job processing mechanisms and tracking them.
  3. Cohesive with your Azure Storage: By just choosing your Azure Storage account, Archive pulls the data from Event Hubs to your containers.
  4. Near-Real time batch analytics: Archive data is available within minutes of ingress into Event Hubs. This enables most common scenarios of near-real-time analytics without having to construct separate data pipelines.

Customers can use EHA by enabling the features in the Azure Portal on the Event Hub. Azure Resource Manager templates can also access the Event Hubs Archive.
