We have already reported on how Microsoft is closing down Lumia sales before the end of the year. The process seems to be well under way. The German Microsoft Store have now sold out of the Lumia 950 smartphone. Microsoft is not saying when the device will come back, but we predict never.
As we said yesterday, we expect that this will start happening around the world. Before the end of the year Microsoft will stop all Lumia sales, so restocking devices now seems unlikely.
The Lumia 950 is Microsoft’s second-tier smartphone flagship behind the Lumia 950 XL. It is a very good high-end handset with a Quad HD display. It also supports Microsoft’s Continuum to turn the device into a mini PC. Other specs include 20MP ZEISS camera, USB-C charging, and good battery life. The 950 has a Snapdragon 808 processor.
Other retailers are still offering the Lumia 950 and should still have some stock left. The good news about this scenario is that deals are likely incoming. With Microsoft ending production, there will be some big cuts on price in the coming months.
Also, this is certainly not the end of Windows 10 Mobile. Microsoft is pulling out of the hardware market, but will support the platform. OEMs will still make devices as well. However, none are matching the 950 and Lumia 950 XL, apart from the HP X3 Elite. That is an amazing device, but it costs the best part of $800.
Lumia 950 XL Production Ending
The Lumia 950 XL is now out of stock in the UK and is probably not coming back. Users in the UK are reporting they cannot get replacement units. This means Microsoft has ended production of the device. The company is saying the Lumia 950 XL is now out of stock. While this is only reported in the UK, we expect is will start happening in all markets.
