Microsoft has rolled out its second Xbox One Preview update since last weekend. The update launched last Saturday brought a bunch of fixes to the Anniversary Update (Summer Update). With the latest release, the company has gone about making more fixes. This time the fixes focus on many of the major services on the console.
With the new update, the Xbox One Preview system moves up to build rs1_xbox_rel_1608.160906-1800. It focuses on sorting Backward Compatibility, which also changing Groove Music and the Xbox One (Windows) Store.
Rs1 of course means Redstone 1, which morphed into the Anniversary Update. On the Xbox, the major upgrade was also known as the Summer Update. This update transformed the Xbox One into a Universal Windows Platform device with Cortana and other Windows 10 features.
Microsoft is still in the process of cleaning up some of the features and shoring them up. This improved functionality will be noticeable in time. For the latest update, the company sent out the following changelog:
- Groove Music: When casting audio files from a Windows 10 PC to an Xbox One using “Cast to device”, Groove Music should no longer fail to launch..
- MSN Weather: Resolved an issue which could sometimes cause the Weather app to fail to launch.
- Backward Compatibility: This build contains a fix to address stuttering and framerate issues in backward compatible games.
- Xbox Universal Store: Resolved an issue which could sometimes cause recently purchased content (movies, TV shows) to fail to launch.
Recent Updates
As mentioned, last Saturday Microsoft sent out another Xbox One Preview build. That release brought Xbox One preview users to OS version rrs1_xbox_rel_1608.160901-1913. This was also a preview release, but actually made its way to end users yesterday.
Microsoft was busy through the end of July and the first week of August. The company rolled out the Summer Update (Anniversary Update) with major changes such as Cortana support. That release also merged the Windows Store with the Xbox Store.
Preview releases started to launch soon after the Summer Update. Updates cleared up several Anniversary Update issues such as with the Skyrock app.
