is finalizing the experience in the preview app. One of the features the company has confirmed is “Messaging Everywhere” for SMS capabilities in Skype on . Today, the consistently spot on guys at WindowsBlogItalia have shared a preview of SMS abilities in Skype UWP.

Messaging Everywhere has been available to Windows Insiders using the Windows 10 Messaging app. The feature allows users to send and receive SMS directly from a Windows 10 PC. It seemed to be a feature that Microsoft decided to delay. It was not rolled out for Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update.

That now seems to be because Microsoft was actually developing it for the Skype UWP app. Of course, this would be a more fitting place for SMS abilities. Indeed, it would turn Skype into even more of a one-stop shop contact service.

Skype SMS

In the preview, it is shown that users can select Skype UWP as their default messaging service on Windows 10 Mobile. When the app is opened, the following message greets users

“Now with Skype you can send text messages or instant messages to your family and friends from a single location. Simply set the app as the default SMS app to send and receive SMS messages from your Windows 10 desktop and mobile. Note: To view the contact names, the app requires access to your local phone book.”

Once the initial process is complete, users can send and receive SMS through Skype. If you have Skype contacts set up, the UWP app will let users choose between text messages and Skype messages in a conversation. It is worth noting that this SMS capability should also work on a Windows 10 PC. As this is a Universal Windows Platform app, we guess SMS messages will be able to be synced across devices.
