Microsoft Releases Cumulative Update KB3176938 for Windows 10 1607 for Release Preview Ring Insiders

Windows Insiders on the Release Preview Ring can now grab the Windows 10 Anniversary Update KB3176938 that landed on other rings last week.

Members of the Windows Insider Program are getting a new build today. has rolled out Windows 10 Build 14393.105 to Insider on the Release Preview Ring. This release brings the cumulative update KB3176938 for Windows 10 version 1607. Microsoft has not posted a changelog for this update.

There is no official changelog but this update was rolled to other Insider rings last week. At that time, Microsoft did issue an official list of changes.

Among those changes was improved readability across a range of Microsoft services. The company also enhanced the Windows Store to make purchasing apps quicker. Windows gamers will be happy with more game compatibility with Xbox One controllers. You can check out those features and more below:

  • Improved reliability of the Windows Ink Workspace, Microsoft Edge, File Server, Windows kernel, Microsoft Component Object Model (COM), Cluster Health Service, Hyper-V, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), NTFS file system, , Internet Explorer, facial recognition, graphics, Microsoft Store and Windows Shell.
  • Better performance for the speed of purchasing Store apps.
  • Improved compatibility of using Xbox One controllers with various games.
  • Addressed issue with incorrect character mapping between Japanese and Unicode for the question mark (?) symbol.
  • Addressed issue that prevents the download and initialization of .NET objects in Internet Explorer.
  • Improved support for new near-field communication (NFC) chips for Windows 10 Mobile.
  • Addressed additional issues with compatibility, Remote Desktop, BitLocker, PowerShell, Direct3D, networking policies, Dynamic Access Control (DAC) rules, Microsoft Edge, Connected Standby, mobile device management (MDM), printing, Fingerprint logon and Cortana.

We have mentioned before that Windows Insiders have already moved on to the next upgrade of Windows. However, this is a build 1607 release, so it is to enhance the features rolled out through the Windows 10 Anniversary Update a month ago.

Microsoft is now pushing early Redstone 2 previews to those on the Windows Insider Program.
