Over the last weeks the gaming gods have giveth and taketh away, but perhaps they are about to give again. came to users over a week ago in the form of a third party app PoGo-UWP. However, Pokémon Go developer Niantic promptly shut down APIs (via encryptions) that allow third parties to create links to the game.

That left the Windows platform without a Pokémon Go solution once more. 's mobile OS is not supported by the official game like iOS and Android. Users have been protesting Niantic and even Microsoft to change that, but no official release is forthcoming.

New API

When Niantic pulled the proverbial plug, the developers of PoGo-UWP said all was not lost. Actually the team said “the makers of the API are looking in to this”. And “in to it” they have looked, and apparently come up with a solution. On the official project GitHub page, the developers posted:

A new API has been finalized and is currently in the process of being implemented. We should see a new build soon, with an updated API and some UI changes. Worth the wait.”

The team has not said how they managed to work around Niantic's walls, and we doubt they will. Nevertheless, it is fantastic news for Windows phone users who want to jump on the new gaming craze. Of course, any third party API may only work for a limited time, especially as Niantic is clear about blocking them.
