Microsoft Bolsters Intune with TeamViewer and Xamarin Support

The mobile device management tool Intune now supports TeamViewer desktop sharing. Xamarin support has also been added, giving developers tools to bridge cross-platform apps easily.

has announced a partnership with TeamViewer, which will be integrated in Intune managed Windows PCs. The company unveiled the collaboration in a blog post. The partnership will involve will see Intune support TeamViewer through a dedicated connector in the Admin console.

TeamView is a cross-platform remote control desktop software. The service allows users to share desktops, online meetings, web conferencing and file transfer between computers. Microsoft's Enterprise Mobility and Security Blog says the cloud-based tool will bring remote assistance to Intune.

is a cloud-based mobile device management service. Other features of the service include mobile application management, and PC management. Announced in 2011, the service manages company-owned devices as well as end users' personal devices.

In its post, Microsoft explains what TeamViewer will bring:

We've introduced a TeamViewer Connector within the admin console that allows you to register your company's TeamViewer account with Intune. Once you've done this, your end users can use the Intune Center on their PCs to request remote assistance, and they'll receive help from your help desk through a TeamViewer connection. All of the TeamViewer features are available to use during your remote session including chat, remote restart, video, screen annotation, file transfer, and more.”

Xamarin

Microsoft also took the wrappers off the Intune App SDK support for . The company says the SDK makes it easier for developers to prevent data loss on iOS and Android through Xamarin. Designed to help users build cross-platform apps on Xamarin, the App SDK is available now.

Dev's can use mobile application management (MAM) controls as part of their standard app development process. The App SDK and its plugins are now available on GitHub and the Xamarin component store. The Xamarin component supports Xamarin Cycle 7 and above.
