We are just three days away from the Anniversary Update dropping on August 2. While end users are looking to Tuesdays, those on the Windows Insider Program can already look beyond. Windows Insider chief, , announced today that the company will start rolling out Redstone 2 previews in August.

For Insiders, Windows 10 1607 (Anniversary Update) is old news. They have been playing with its unfinished features for some time. After downloading the complete end user release they will move onto new previews. It is the whole point of the so far successful Windows Insider model. It means is always looking to the future and previewing features.

In a long blog post about patting Windows Insiders and the program on the back, Sakar announced previews for August.

“For those of you who love installing new builds – don't worry, we'll be pushing out new builds again in August!”

Redstone 2

The codename for the Anniversary Update was Redstone and it was always known to come in two parts. Redstone 2 (rs2) was once scheduled for release this year, but has since been pushed back to Spring, 2017.

It is rumored to be more Windows 10 Mobile-centric that the PC oriented Redstone 1 (rs1). We also suspect the Universal Windows Platform idea will be pushed further, while HoloLens will also feature. Either way, Insiders will start to find out as the first preview features start rolling out to the Fast Ring next month.

Microsoft has said it will provide two major updates of Windows 10 per year. 2016 has already missed that pledge, but that's because of the delay in Redstone 2. Expect the company to adhere to the two per year promise from 2017 onwards.
