We are just a weekend away from Microsoft launching the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. The upgrade will bring sweeping changes when it reaches the masses on August 2. Windows 10 version 1607 (as it will be known to end users) has been available in various guises on the Windows Insider Program for some time.
Before the big launch day on Tuesday, Microsoft has begun preparations by sending out the Release Preview. This build is available to those on the Windows Insider Program on the Release Preview on either the Fast or Slow rings.
While this is an Insider release, it is more or less the final Windows 10 1607 (Anniversary Update) build. If you are interested in checking out, you can sign up for the Windows Insider Program. You will need to be running Windows 10 to get into the Insider Program and have a Microsoft account.
Anniversary Update
We have been following the Windows 10 Anniversary Update for months. The build that was once known as Redstone 1 (rs1) was officially announced by Microsoft at Build 2016. At the event, the company said that the upgrade will be free to all current Windows 10 users. Incidentally, the company’s free Windows 10 upgrade program ends today (July 29).
The changes coming with the Anniversary Update are extensive. Indeed, Windows 10 1607 will feel like a new platform considering the amount of changes being introduced. Those on the Insider Program will already know most of the new additions and have already used them. Microsoft has been rolling out Anniversary features to Insiders sporadically for months.
