LinkedIn Acquires Customer Engagement Company PointDrive

LinkedIn has announced it will buy PointDrive, a company that specializes in giving sales professionals tools to engage with potential customers.

-

revealed it is involved in another acquisition, but this time as the buyer. The company has announced it will acquire PointDrive, a startup specializing in business to customer engagement. Just two months ago, LinkedIn was the subject of a $26.2 billion buyout from Microsoft. However, that cash deal left the company operating as its own enterprise.

That's why LinkedIn can make the PointDrive acquisition solo and without on board. Of course, Microsoft will also benefit from the deal ultimately.

“Today, I'm delighted to announce that we've acquired PointDrive, a company that developed an innovative product which aims to improve the way sales professionals engage with prospects and customers through the sharing of rich content.”

Used by LinkedIn

PointDrive is an app that allows sales professionals to engage with potential customers. Users can do this by personalizing sales content that can be sent to prospective clients. LinkedIn says that its own sales team has been using PointDrive and that it has been a valuable asset to the department.

David Thacker, Vice President, Product at LinkedIn at spoke about the purchase in a release:

We're enthusiastic about the future possibilities of integrating the PointDrive experience with our Sales Solutions portfolio.  We believe that combining our network and product with their content-sharing application will help to better position LinkedIn as a platform where sales professionals can build stronger relationships with customers and prospects.”

Post-acquisition the PointDrive development and product teams will move to LinkedIn's San Francisco base. However, some of the staff, such as customer-facing personnel, will remain in PointDrive's Chicago location. The company says current customers will be supported and no decision on new customers has been reached.
