Microsoft has just announced Cantonese support throughout its Translator ecosystem. The language will integrate with Translator’s supported products and empower individuals and organizations through quick and cost-effective translation.
As noted by Microsoft in the official blog post, “With the new language, governments, communities and, people will be able to communicate back and forth across borders for both business and personal purposes.”
Cantonese is spoken by about 55 million people in China, and another 20 million globally. The language will remove communications barriers, as Microsoft Translator currently supports Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Vietnamese, and Malay.
Microsoft also states that Cantonese will be available as an instant messaging language in Skype for Windows desktop. It will allow users to communicate in real-time around the world without language barriers.
The language will also be available through Microsoft Translator API so that developers could integrate Cantonese translation into their products.

Microsoft Translator supports a wide range of Microsoft products and apps to communicate across language barriers in nearly any scenario. The service integrates into Bing, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Cortana, and Yammer. It has a full suite of apps for PCs and mobile devices such as Windows, Android, iOS, and Apple Watch.
The translator ecosystem also integrates into the Microsoft Translator Web Widget and Document Translator. The web widget adds multi-language support to your website, while the Document Translator allows you to translate documents.
