Microsoft Adds “Save a Copy” Feature for OneNote Class Notebooks

The new feature was added based on requests made by students. They wanted to keep a copy of their Class Notebook even after changing schools or graduating.

OneNote has garnered over 35 partners and continues to grow. In addition, educational organizations are utilizing OneNote Class Notebooks at an increasing rate in the U.S.

The reason is because the Class Notebooks give teachers and students the opportunity to build e-Portfolios and digital modeling books. For example, it gives them a unique way of learning about popular culture such as Star Wars.

Adding the “Save a Copy” feature for Class Notebooks makes life much easier for Students. The option to keep a copy of their Class Notebook even after changing schools or graduating had been a popular request from many users. Moreover, they were interested in keeping it as a portfolio. Not to mention, teachers can change schools or embark upon new administrative roles and many of them were also interested

Using the feature

took the feedback and produced something from it. They created and debuted the “Save a copy” feature. To utilize the feature, these steps need to be taken:

  1. Sign in to the web version of OneNote.
  2. Look for the Notebook list.
  3. To take a look at all of your classes, click Class Notebooks.
  4. To select a Class Notebook, right-click on its link.
  5. To save it, choose Save a copy.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Sign in to a Microsoft account, or create one.

Those are all the actions needed to save a copy. Microsoft has also stated that this is only the first phase of this addition. Soon, Microsoft intends to offer “Save a copy” on notebooks of any type.

Then, they will add the feature to OneDrive for Business. This will allow students to “Save a copy” of their Class Notebook from a teacher's OneDrive for Business account. They will then be able to transfer it to their own OneDrive for Business account.
