Microsoft Pushes Back the Release of Azure Stack until mid-2017

Microsoft is teaming up with server vendors HPE, Dell, and Lenovo to ensure hardware support for Azure Stack when the private cloud system will be released next year.

´s is a public/private cloud hybrid solution that allows companies to build their own private clouds. They may also use the same software being utilized on Azure's public crowd.

For the launch Microsoft will limit Azure Stack to HPE, and Dell as partnering server vendors. Azure stack will run not run on any other servers. The announcement was made on July 12, during Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC).

Previously, Microsoft had said that customers could use the hardware of their choice. Moreover, some users were able to get it to work on various servers.

But Microsoft wants to minimize complexity, which is why they finally decided to partner only with three vendors and delivering it as a turnkey bundle.

Microsoft believes this decision will optimize results. For customers already using Microsoft's Cloud Platform System, the transition to Azure Stack should be seamless.
