Microsoft Issues Windows 10 Build 10586.494 Cumulative Update

The latest release for Windows 10 is build 10586.494, coming to both version builds of the platform. This update comes with no new features, but makes some key fixes.

Microsoft has today rolled out a cumulative update for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile. The update is running under the build number 10586.494. KB3163912 is the build for the initial Windows 10 2015 release and KB3172985 is for Windows 10 version 1511.

As usual, Microsoft has released the changelog to the Windows Update History page. That’s also the location you need to head if you want to check your device is up to date. As expected with a cumulative update, there is not a lot going on with this release aside from fixes.

Typical performance enhancements, security patches, and fixes for known issues are the order of the day. That means don’t get Windows 10 build 10586.494 hoping for some new features. Of course, you won’t have to wait long for those with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update dropping in a few weeks.

Changes and Fixes

While nothing exciting comes bundled into build 10586.494, as always it is worth downloading. Not least because it is simply the latest release from Microsoft, so has all the company’s newest security and performance enhancements.

Check out the changes from Windows 10 Update History:

“Improved reliability of Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer 11, Windows Explorer, Miracast, and Windows kernel.

Fixed issue with some people seeing a black screen instead of the lock screen when resuming from connected standby.

Fixed issue with DirectAccess where the Disconnect button appears in some cases when the connection isn’t fully established.

Fixed issue where local user accounts weren’t locked after a number of failed sign in attempts.

Improved support for video playback in certain apps that didn’t render video correctly after resuming from sleep.

Fixed issue with Windows Phone losing user authentication certificates after upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile in some cases.

Improved support of the backup settings of apps on Windows Mobile.

Fixed issue where Microsoft Silverlight based apps wouldn’t install on Windows 10 Mobile after joining Azure Active Directory.

Fixed additional issues in .NET, Windows Kernel, Windows Update, authentication, revised daylight saving time, support for PDF files, Bluetooth, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer 11, networking, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Security updates for Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer 11, Kernel Mode Drivers, Windows Kernel, .NET Framework, Windows Secure Kernel Mode, and Microsoft Print Spooler.”
