Microsoft is gearing up to launch the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on August 2. According to a new report, the upcoming build 14384 will be the first RTM (release to manufacturing) release, with Microsoft’s in the process of signing off the build at the moment.
Windows Central says Microsoft is currently internally testing build 14384. This means the company is seeing if it holds up to scrutiny before making it available.
During the sign-up process, Microsoft will decide whether it will be this build that will become the Windows 10 Anniversary Update RTM release, or whether it will need to select another candidate. At the moment, the company plans for it to be build 14384, but that could change.
Either way, we are definitely close to knowing which Redstone (the preview codename for Windows 10 Anniversary) will be chosen at the RTM candidate. There is only four weeks left until the company releases the Anniversary Update to end users, so some solid (read official) RTM information can only be a couple of weeks away at the most.
The last four to six weeks have seen Microsoft speed up the amount of preview release in the Windows Insider Program, but at the same time slow down new features. Earlier Anniversary Update builds for Insiders were packed with new features and functionality, especially through April and May.
However, the closer to the launch of the update to end users we have got, the less features Microsoft is debuting. That makes a bunch of sense of course as the company is now preparing for the official launch and is merely clearing the decks of any bugs and issues before that release.
Once the Anniversary Update has launched, Microsoft’s attention will almost immediately turn its attention to Redstone 2. The Redstone upgrade is split into two, with the Anniversary Update serving as the first. The so far unnamed second wave will launch in April 2017, but Windows Central suggests that Microsoft will start shopping previews to Insiders as soon as August, 2016.
