Office Insiders on Android Receive New Update

Microsoft has issued Office apps on Android with new updates, for those on the Insider Program. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint have all received minor changes.

Members of the Office Insider Program on the platform are getting a treat in the form of a new update from .

The update is being rolled out for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and comes with a number of new features for Insiders to test and preview before they reach end users in an upcoming upgrade.

All three Office apps for Android are getting the ability to save files on SD cards with the latest preview for Insiders. This feature is limited to devices running Android 5.0 KitKat and higher, allowing users to save content anywhere on an SD card.

Word has scored some enhancements to table editing, while Excel gets the ability to open files that have ActiveX controls. All three applications are getting a new Discover feature that lets users find and install other Office apps on their Android device.

    Word

  • Tables built for touch: No more cut and paste! Drag tables to move them, and let text wrap around
  • Save files on SD cards: With Android 5.0 and newer versions, save files anywhere on an SD card.
  • Discover more Office apps: Word now makes it easy for you to discover and quickly install all the Office apps available for your Android phone and tablet.

 

    Excel

  • Open more files: Now you can open files that contain ActiveX controls.
  • Save files on SD cards: With Android 5.0 and newer versions, save files anywhere on an SD card.
  • Discover more Office apps: Excel now makes it easy for you to discover and quickly install all the Office apps available for your Android phone and tablet.

 

PowerPoint

  • Discover more Office apps: PowerPoint now makes it easy for you to discover and quickly install all the Office apps available for your Android phone and tablet.

Microsoft opened the Office Insider Program for Android in March, building on the success of the Windows Insider Program. The program lets users sign up to get Office builds on Android before end users. Customers can test new features and give Microsoft feedback about improvements and issues.
