Users can purchase the HoloLens Development Edition from their own personal store where they will also be given further instructions.
HoloLens comes in a hard-shell storage case, which greatly resembles that of the Xbox One Elite Controller. This stores the optional head strap and starter guide, a longer nose-piece, and a charger.
The entire package is small enough to fit into a backpack. It also comes with the optional accessory HoloLens Clicker, which “features a finger loop what goes around the top of the middle finger, and . . . holds it on a natural position between [the] index finger and thumb.” The user can navigate the system and highlight an item with their gaze.
HoloLens is capable of running up to three flat apps at the same time and enables the user to pin images without the app bar in their world. Moreover, HoloLens includes Groove Music.
It also allows for the use of a Bluetooth mouse, and if the user receives a Skype call while they are busy, Cortana, the knowledge navigator and intelligent personal assistant for Windows 10 and Windows Phone 8.1, provides a sound alert that notifies the user of an incoming Skype call. Cortana can also reject or answer the call for the user.
As Alex Kipman, technical fellow at Microsoft, indicated, HoloLens is “the most advanced holographic computer the world has ever seen.” To help users visualize how it works, Kipman said, “Imagine turning your living room into a surreal gaming environment.”
Indeed, Microsoft’s HoloLens not only provides users with rich functions but with rich experiences as well.
