Microsoft Just Killed Halo 5 on Windows 10 PC

A statement from Microsoft reveals the company has “no plans” to introduce Halo 5 on Windows 10 PC, but don’t give up hope just yet.

It seems that has no plans to port Halo 5: Guardians to PC, according to a statement from the company today. The decision appears to have a degree of finality to it that should quash persistent rumors that the game would be coming to desktops at some point.

Halo 5: Guardians was launched on the Xbox One last October and considering Microsoft's Universal Windows Platform (UWP) plans, it appeared a great candidate for a PC port. Frank O'Connor, Halo franchise director, even suggested the game would come to PC by saying “there is plenty chance that Halo 5 could appear on PC”.

Just last month we speculated that the company would bring Halo 5 to Windows 10 PC after the company launched the Forge gaming map editor. It seemed to be a logical first step to bringing the full game to Windows 10, but apparently not according to a Microsoft spokesperson who gave the following statement to PC Gamer:

Our approach is to deliver epic Halo experiences designed for PC gamers and Windows 10, such as Halo Wars 2 and the recently announced Halo 5: Forge. There are no plans to port Halo 5: Guardians to PC.

So, that's game over Halo 5 fans, or is it? Firstly, a “Microsoft spokesperson” is not as authoritative as someone who is very close to the franchise. If the word had dropped from someone willing to be named then it would seem more certain. We are still buoyed by the fact O'Connor said last October that Halo 5 for Windows 10 was probable.

Of course, there is also the fact that companies say one thing when they are doing the exact opposition. While the party line from Microsoft is that Halo 5: Guardians is an Xbox One exclusive, we will still harbor some hope that the company is working on a Windows 10 port.

What do you think, is this the final nail in the proverbial coffin for Halo 5 on Windows 10?
