Microsoft Authenticator App Available for Windows 10 Mobile Insiders on the Fast Ring

The Microsoft Authenticator two-factor authentication app is available in the Windows Store for Windows 10 Mobile users on the Inside.

-

is taking the wrappers off its Microsoft Authenticator tool, a two-factor authentication (2FA) app that runs on Mobile. The company has rolled out the app to users running Windows 10 Mobile Redstone (Anniversary Update) on the Fast Ring and possibly the Slow Ring.

That means to get this app, you will need to be a Windows Insider and on the Fast and Slow rings, normal production builds or Release Previews of the platform will not work. This can be seen by heading to the , where the Microsoft Authenticator is listed, but is in beta form for internal testing and cannot be downloaded by normal builds.

This app is still in beta. Future versions will include support for Microsoft account, a sign-in solution for browsers and VPN, one-time passcode generation, and MFA approval through notifications.

As this is an Insider release, you can expect a number of bugs and limited functionality, but the basic two-factor authentication functionality is working. This core feature sees the app either push a notification for users to approve or deny or through a generated code.

Eventually, the Microsoft Authentication app will be able to unlock Windows 10 PCs via Bluetooth from their Windows 10 Mobile handset. Those rocking the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL flagships will be able to use Windows Hello with the Authenticator. Connecting to a Microsoft Account lets the app generate a code that can be used to log into services within the device.

If you are not a Windows Insider on the Fast Ring then you can check out the details of the app at the Windows Store page. If you are an Insider and are pulling in this app, let us know in the comment below how the Microsoft Authenticator works for you.
