Microsoft Launches Power BI Solution Templates

A sales management solution template and a sales management solution template for Power BI have been launched by .

Microsoft has taken the wrappers off its public preview of solution templates for Power BI, which arrives with two templates. The solution templates give customers the ability to efficiently and quickly produce analytics and visualizations on their source applications.

In its official launch of the templates, Microsoft says that the solutions mean customers can focus more on matching their enterprise needs. The two templates are a sales management solution template for Dynamics CRM and a sales management solution template for Salesforce, “simplifying” the system for Power BI solutions for applications.

With the templates, users will be able to:

“The ability to get data out of the source application with an initial full load and subsequent incremental loads (ie, just new and changed records) to get data into a datamart or data warehouse,

A pre-configured database and Power BI model with extensible schema and calculations for measures and KPIs pertaining to the domain, and

Quick start tools like a default set of Power BI reports that work out of the box and can be extended.”

Microsoft has made the solution template creation method an easy process, with customers just needing to select a destination for the data (Azure SQL Database and SQL Server for example) and answer some questions that will provide the base of the source application.

From there the tool will take over and create a schema, configure the data from Dynamics CRM or Salesforce to the target store, and then create Power BI reports for the data store. While Dynamics CRM and Salesforce are the only source applications at the moment, Microsoft says more are to come.
