The Galaxy TabPro S is a hybrid tablet/laptop that is a rival to Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 and the device is now making its debut in the Great White North.
Samsung’s Galaxy TabPro S was announced earlier in the year as a hybrid tablet/laptop running Windows 10 and providing Microsoft’s own Surface Pro 4 with a robust competitor. The Korean giant has now announced that the device is getting a launch in Canada, with pre-orders going live tomorrow (May 13) ahead of a roll out later in the month.
As we wrote at the launch of the Galaxy TabPro S, it is good news that Samsung is willing to back the Windows 10 platform again. As the biggest mobile manufacturer in the world, Microsoft could do with Samsung’s support on more tablets and of course smartphones.
If the TabPro S is a success then the company could be tempted to make more hybrids, although smartphones are admittedly a different story. While the device is a rival to the Surface Pro 4, it is not as potent, and Microsoft has said it welcomes OEMs challenging its own hardware output.
“The Galaxy TabPro S is a Windows-based two-in-one, perfect for Canadians who want the functionality of a Windows 10 Pro device,” said Jason Hermitage, General Manager, Microsoft Canada. “The Windows 10 Pro-based Galaxy TabPro S is a great companion for someone in the office, between meetings, or at home relaxing.”
Samsung’s hybrid boasts a 12-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution (2,160 x 1,440), a potent 6th generation Intel dual-core Core M chipset clocked at 2.2GHz, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid state drive.
“At the moment, Samsung is not offering any upgrade options, while only the Wi-Fi version of the TabPro S has been released. That will probably be rectified in the coming weeks and months when an LTE variant is launched.”
In Canada the Galaxy TabPro S will cost $1,399 CAD, the Surface Pro 4 is actually more affordable at $1,179 for its base model.
