Microsoft Uses Patch Tuesday to Roll out Firmware Update for Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book

Its “Patch Tuesday” for May, which means Microsoft will be rolling out some simple updates today for its products and services, mostly to squash bugs and patch security holes. The company's flagship hardware products, the 4 and Surface Book, are getting a firmware update as part of Patch Tuesday.

As these are simple firmware fixes, the upgrade is not substantial in the sense of adding new features or functionality to the Surface devices. That said, there are plenty of patches in the update, and here's the changelog directly from Microsoft:

Surface Book design

As this is Patch Tuesday, expect Microsoft to announce some other minor firmware updates through the day, including to its Windows 10 platform. As for the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, the devices have recently received more substantial updates, such as a patch that finally solved a problem where Sleep Mode would drain the battery.

The Surface Pro 4 has been confronted with rivals from other platforms and Windows this year, with Samsung launching the Galaxy Tab Pro S and Huawei the MateBook on Windows 10, while Apple's 9.7-inch iPad Pro was launched in March.
