Windows Store gets First Edge Extension in Form of Pinterest Button

-

announced it was adding extensions to the Edge Browser last month, ending weeks of speculation that the browser would be getting the feature.

At the moment, extensions for Edge are only available in preview form, with the full feature expected to be rolled out alongside the Anniversary Update in the summer.

However, the Windows Store has not scored its first Edge extension in the form of Pinterest, which is now available to be downloaded.

Pinterest is of course a major social network, so the company throwing support behind is hugely encouraging and hints that major brands will develop for the browser.

Microsoft needs the boost after Internet Explorer lost its number one market position to Google Chrome last month and Edge is only growing slowly. The more features and functionality the new browser gets, the better chance it has of keeping pace with Chrome and Firefox.

The Pinterest extension puts a “Pin” button in the toolbar of Edge that lets users save ideas they see as they navigate the web. Clicking the Pinterest button on web content will see the content saved to the Pin button.

Click the Pinterest button next time you find something interesting that you want to save for later. Collect recipes from your favorite food blogs, articles you want to read later, ideas for your home and more! Links are saved as visual bookmarks, which are much easier to recognize and organize than the same old text bookmarks your browser gives you.

It seems as though the Pinterest Edge extension can be downloaded for Windows 10 desktop that are running the newest preview builds, as well as Windows 10 Mobile previews. At the moment there are reports that there is no interface in the Windows 10 Mobile extensions, so functionality will likely arrive with the Anniversary Update.
