Microsoft Embraces Android Wear with Outlook for Android Update

-

A new update for Outlook for Android adds much requested support for Google’s wearable platform, giving users Outlook notifications at a glance through Android Wear.

Microsoft’s play nice with rivals attitude is continuing unabated and the company is expanding its reach on the Android platform more.

The company today rolled out an update for Outlook for Android, giving its email application compatibility with Android Wear in the process.

Android Wear is Google wearable specific platform that is used by numerous Android OEMs for their smartwatches.

Microsoft has no real rival platform, so expanding services to Android Wear makes sense, especially as the company is consistently pushing services and features to other platforms these days.

On the official Outlook page on the Google Play Store, Microsoft details the small but important changelog thusly:

WHAT’S NEW

This week, we’re bringing the best of Outlook to Android Wear. Stop reaching out for your phone; everything is now happening on your watch.

Check your Outlook notifications, read your new emails and reply with pre-set messages or voice dictation right from your wrist. It’s never been that easy to manage your inbox.

This means you can now check Outlook and Mail directly on your wrist with a smartphone synced wearable. Microsoft has been adding new features to the Outlook Windows service recently too, such as Safety Tips to protect email malware and confirming a soon to launch Outlook Premium subscription service.

It remains to be seen if these features will make their way to Android.
